Invisalign clear-aligner technology utilizes a series of clear, thin-plastic retainers, instead of metal braces, to gently move your teeth and create a beautiful smile.
Before Invisalign, a trip to your general dentist is essential to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy. Any kind of orthodontic treatment has the potential to exacerbate pre-existing dental conditions, possibly interfering with Invisalign treatment and adversely affecting the outcome. Best practice is to check for and resolve all dental issues before beginning Invisalign.
Once your teeth and gums are determined healthy, a dentist or orthodontist can evaluate whether Invisalign treatment is right for you.
Invisalign treatment begins with molds of the teeth used to create digital scans. The computerized model generates several stages between the current and desired teeth positions. These stages will be reviewed by your dentist or orthodontist for possible corrections. Once approved, the computer will generate aligners for each stage. Each aligner is worn for two weeks and then replaced by subsequent retainers to slowly and gently move the teeth into the dentist's and patient's agreed-upon desired position. Treatment time ranges from six to eighteen months.
